We are currently seeking a Managing Scientist in our Chemical Regulations & Food Safety Practice to be based in our Washington, DC office. In this role, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of toxicologists, exposure scientists, health risk assessors, food scientists, nutrition scientists, and regulatory consultants providing safety reviews, conducting health risk assessments, and project management to support clients in the food and ingredient industries.

This person will have opportunities to collaborate with other Exponent practice areas.

• Managing and organizing pre-market approval projects, such as GRAS, FAP/CAP, NDIN, and FCNs
• Providing strategic regulatory consulting related to food additives/ingredients, novel foods, botanical ingredients, and dietary supplements
• Interacting with clients and FDA regulators
• Preparing complex technical reports
• Project management and project budget oversight
• Mentoring and developing Scientist and Senior Scientist career goals and working collaboratively across the various Exponent practices

• 10+ years of experience in food regulatory consulting
• Strong background in Human Health Risk Assessment
• Doctorate or Master’s degree in biochemistry, biological sciences, nutrition, toxicology, or related field
• Sound scientific principles, flexibility, and willingness to learn
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, adaptable, effective with time management, and capable of working independently and cooperatively in diverse teams
• Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
• Exposure to sensitive information will necessitate considerable use of tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment
• Willingness to learn and be creative
