Position: Control Technician 3

Overview

The Control Technician 3 is responsible for fabricating control panels, field installation, commissioning procedures, troubleshooting, calibration of field instruments, testing, analysis, documentation, and updating drawings of finished control panels. This role also involves caring for all M.C. Dean, Inc. provided shop tools, meters, and associated equipment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Following verbal instructions and reading work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine materials needed and assembly sequence.
  • Performing sheet metal work, punching holes, wiring, painting, and welding.
  • Providing on-the-job training to new employees.
  • Understanding and following company procedures for ordering, storing, receiving, and returning materials and tools.
  • Ensuring work completion as per schedule and achieving quality goals.
  • Having at least three years of experience in a shop environment and a minimum of one year of electrical experience, with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience and certifications:

  • High school diploma with 6-8 years of experience.
  • Obtaining, at the company’s expense, CPR and First Aid certifications within six months of hire and maintaining these certifications.
  • Passing background investigation and drug test.
  • Work experience includes:

  • Interpreting control circuits, schematics, and line diagrams.
  • Selecting control components and preparing BOMs according to specifications and standards.
  • Sizing circuit breakers and fuses per specifications and standards.
  • Fabricating, designing, laying out, and installing control panels and components.
  • Installing and troubleshooting Building Automation Systems (Distech, Siemens, Niagara).
  • Wiring and testing PLCs, VFDs, and other control components.
  • Using test equipment like multi-function meters, oscilloscopes, and others.
  • Understanding industrial automation and control schemes.
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining control circuits in industrial environments.
  • Tools used:

  • Power tools, drills, saws, punch sets, and testing equipment like Fluke meters, Hi-Pot, Meggar, and others.
  • Using laptops with manufacturer's software for wiring and testing.
  • Abilities required:

  • Lifting at least 100 pounds and working at heights up to 60 feet.
  • Climbing ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts.
  • Performing physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching.
  • Good vision, color perception, hearing, and communication skills.
  • Recognizing problems and applying rules to specific issues.
  • Seeing details at close range.
