Facilities, Buildings & Grounds (FBG) is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician (FMT) to support the University’s mission. The position reports to the Facility Zone Manager and involves semi‑skilled and sub‑journey work in maintenance, repair, remodeling, alterations and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment. The FMT will also function as a general repairer when journey‑level tradespersons are unavailable.
Responsibilities- Operate hand tools, power tools and shop equipment.
- Perform minor repairs on building fixtures, plumbing, heating, laundry and kitchen equipment, motors and electrical appliances.
- Operate automotive equipment to transport materials and supplies.
- Assist in fabrication of equipment and materials in trade shops according to project requirements.
- Repair windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings and paint surfaces.
- Perform minor repairs on electrical circuits, steam or water lines, plumbing fixtures, lights and partitions; clear clogged drains and sewer lines; replace broken windows.
- Respond to maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
- Detect and report the need for major maintenance repairs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics and technical documents to locate trouble areas and complete repairs accurately.
- Operate and maintain building equipment and systems such as vacuum systems, control air systems, building air systems, emergency generators, electrical distribution systems, liquid pumping systems, steam, air handling systems, hot/cold water systems and natural gas and fuel oil systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, buildings and building systems to ensure safe operation.
- Provide guidance to staff to ensure work orders are completed accurately and timely.
- Maintain required record‑keeping.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field. Degree must be conferred by the start date. Education, training and experience may be substituted with a comparable combination.
Preferred Qualifications- Basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building systems repair skills.
- Experience with a range of hand tools and equipment, mechanical aptitude, and ability to read blueprints or equipment diagrams.
- A valid driver’s license.
- CPR/first aid certification.
USD 21.91 – 28.41 per hour.
