Role
Description:
The Water Services Worker 10 is responsible for making shutoffs of water mains and repairing water valves and hydrants.
- Repairs and replaces valves and fire hydrants. Inspects repaired mains or newly constructed mains for adequacy before changing/recharging. Inspects water valves and vaults prior to street repaving; makes necessary repairs or recommends replacement by others to assure that new roadways will not have to be opened or excavated. Makes post repaving inspections.
- Responds to muddy and discolored water complaints. Solves these complaints by flushing mains through blow-off valves and fire hydrants. Responds and investigates emergency complaints regarding valves and fire hydrants.
- Plans and executes shutoff including establishment of time of shut-off with all consumers to assure that work proceeds as scheduled.
- Makes routine and emergency shut-offs of water mains. Determines valves necessary to isolate mains and closes them as rapidly as possible without damaging the valves or main. Performs turn‑on and turn‑off in response to non‑payment.
- Provides check and notification for scheduled shuts.
- Performs preventive maintenance on valves and fire hydrants.
- Prepares and submits valve data card reports as well as daily reports of completed work assignments.
- Provides guidance and assistance to lower graded employees.
- Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations
- Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.

Required Skills & Qualifications
Required Experience:
Four (4) years of progressive experience and expected to have a thorough knowledge of all sections and functions of the Department or
Four (4) years of demonstrated experience involving working in the installation and/or maintenance of water services and cross-connection devices.
High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
