job descriptionthis job opening is being used to fill current and future vacant positions in this classification at various shifts, locations and assigned days off.
order of preference: the selection for maintenance and construction is made on the basis of fitness and ability with preference given to: maintenance and construction district, system-wide (l689), authority-wide and external candidates, respectively.
minimum qualifications: education- high school diploma or possession of a general equivalency diploma (ged) and two (2) years of vocational or technical training in electronics
twelve (12) months after an employee achieves a particular grade level (i.e. Grades d, c, b, a and aa), he/she shall advance to the next grade level provided he/she has taken and passed the required written and practical test(s), acquired the applicable certifications and has met the other requirements, including fitness for duty, work record, and job performance requirements
experience- mechanic communications field equipment technician “helper”
- one (1) year of experience working in electronic equipment repair of communications systems equipment
- mechanic communications field equipment technician “c”
- two (2) years of experience working in electronic equipment repair of communications systems equipment; or one (1) year satisfactorily performing the duties of a mechanic communications field equipment technician helper
- mechanic communications field equipment technician “b”
- three (3) years of experience working in electronic equipment repair of communications systems equipment; or one (1) year satisfactorily performing the duties of a mechanic communications field equipment technician c
- mechanic communications field equipment technician “a”
- four (4) years of experience working in electronic equipment repair of communications systems equipment; or one (1) year satisfactorily performing the duties of a mechanic communications field equipment technician b
- mechanic communications field equipment technician “aa”
- five (5) years of experience working in electronic equipment repair of communications systems equipment; or one (1) year satisfactorily performing the duties of a mechanic communications field equipment technician a
- possession of, or ability to obtain, a district of columbia, maryland, or virginia motor vehicle operator’s license issued from state of residence
- roadway worker protection (rwp) training, level 2; within the first ninety (90) days of starting job and maintained for the duration of time in job
- associate degree, or vocational or technical school degree in electronics technology
ability to satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this job. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of this job either with or without reasonable accommodations.
ability to distinguish basic colors for wire and safety identification.
ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, i.e., frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally to 75 pounds.
