Access Control Technician – 1099 Contractor | Washington, DC Metro Area
Epworth Security Systems is looking for an experienced, field-ready Access Control Technician to support commercial access control, intercom, and low-voltage installation and service projects throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
About EpworthEpworth Security Systems is a Washington, DC-based security integration company specializing in cloud-based access control, ButterflyMX intercom systems, and structured cabling for commercial, institutional, and residential properties.
What You Will Do- Install and wire card readers, keypads, biometric scanners, electric locks, maglocks, and door controllers; run and terminate low-voltage cabling and configure hardware and network connections
- Program user accounts, access levels, schedules, and credentials; issue, activate, and deactivate access credentials and maintain accurate access records
- Diagnose and repair hardware, software, and network issues; perform preventive maintenance, system testing, and routine inspections
- Integrate access control with CCTV, intrusion alarm, intercom, and building management systems
- Document installations, service calls, and system configurations, and maintain wiring diagrams
- Follow local electrical and building codes, company security policies, and workplace safety procedures
- Demonstrated hands-on experience installing and servicing commercial electronic access control systems; 5+ years preferred
- Working knowledge of low-voltage electrical wiring and networking (TCP/IP, switches, routers)
- ButterflyMX experience strongly preferred; comparable cloud-based platform experience considered
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with the judgment to work independently in the field
- Maintain required personal technician tools and reliable transportation;
Epworth provides specialized equipment. Personal tool requirements will be reviewed during onboarding. - Ability to read floor plans, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer installation documentation
- Manage multiple service and installation assignments while meeting documentation and project deadlines.
- Clear communication and technical documentation habits; comfortable working directly with clients
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check
- Preferred: Certified Electronics Technician (CET), SIA certification, manufacturer certifications, or a low-voltage/electrical license.
- Type: Independent contractor (1099) / project-based
- Compensation: $35–$50/hour based on experience; multi-week project assignments
- Location: Washington, DC metro area; on-site at commercial, institutional, and residential client facilities
- Schedule: Field-based work, scheduled around installation and service appointments
