Job Title: API Platform Engineer
Location: Washington, DC (On-site)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through Zip Staff — No C2C or 1099)
About the OpportunityZip Staff is seeking an API Platform Engineer for a portfolio engineering team at a major transportation organization.
You will lead API platform modernization, remediate code vulnerabilities, manage Git Hub branching and AWS Code Pipeline workflows, and provide supplemental engineering support to the Safety & Security Software Development Team. This is a hands-on platform seat, not a pure application development role.
What You’ll Do- Drive API platform upgrades and enhancements across cloud infrastructure.
- Identify, prioritize, and remediate code vulnerabilities and software bugs.
- Manage Git Hub branching strategies, repositories, and automated build/deployment pipelines using AWS Code Pipeline.
- Partner with the Safety & Security Software Development Team on code reviews and issue resolution.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain scalable REST APIs and data streaming pipelines.
- 5+ years developing and supporting RESTful APIs in modern cloud environments.
- Hands-on with AWS services including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Amazon Kinesis, ECS, and EBS.
- Strong coding skills in Python and Node.js.
- Experience with Git Hub for source control (branching, merging, pull requests).
- Experience maintaining AWS Code Pipeline workflows.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve software vulnerabilities and complex system bugs.
- Able to work on-site in Washington, DC.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
- Safety, security, or transportation domain experience.
- Containerized architectures on ECS.
- Experience supporting enterprise portfolio applications.
