Position: ASC Counselor (PT)
Location: Fairfield

Solano Community College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for possible part‑time counseling assignments within the Accessibility Service Center. These positions are filled on an as needed basis and are on‑going recruitment. Counseling assignments may include day, evening and weekend hours.

  • Provide academic, career, and disability adjustment counseling services, and/or teach Counseling division courses. Conduct scheduled and drop‑in individual/group counseling sessions as assigned; maintain informational reports as required by the Dean of Counseling; conduct on‑campus and off‑campus counseling assignments; assist with student outreach/in‑reach presentations on a variety of topics; assist with orientation and recruitment programming; maintain current knowledge of academic and career counseling techniques and information;

    attend required trainings and professional development; make appropriate student referrals to campus and public service agencies as necessary; serve as liaison person with assigned academic divisions, departments, or special areas; utilize variety of computer software systems for career and academic counseling/teaching; and perform special duties as assigned.
  • Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and requirements; inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports; and maintain required student attendance and scholastic records. Teaching schedule may include evening or weekend hours as part of contract assignment.
  • Conduct intake with students with disabilities who are applying for services, utilizing information such as medical/academic records, to determine eligibility for services. Certify eligibility of students tested in the center and those with appropriate outside documentation.
  • Provide academic accommodation plans through interactive process.
  • Assists students and faculty/staff in making appropriate academic adjustments to for classroom accommodations.
  • Prepare and maintain records (scholastic, attendance, and personnel as necessary) for each student according to applicable reporting requirements, relay pertinent information to college personnel as needed within the confidentiality of such personal information and records as required by law.
  • Maintain assessment data and confidential student files in order to certify students ‘accommodations based on verified disabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains confidential records including referral information, assessments, and progress reports; and completes required State and Federal reports.
  • Promote awareness of services for students with disabilities throughout the campus community (students, faculty, staff, administration), and community partners.

Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling OR Master’s degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT);

and either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate‑level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post‑secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of full‑time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:

  • (A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or
  • (B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which he responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent. Per CCR 53414
