Job Description / Essential Functions
This position will involve working as a substitute/on-call teacher to assist schools on a program need basis. The positions will be varied, and may include instruction with basic education and disabled students in self-contained and regular education settings, recess and performing other job-related duties as assigned. All duties of the position will be performed within the scope of Columbia School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
Conditions of Employment

- Pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- Provide positive recommendations/references from previous supervisors. Family and friends will not be considered acceptable references.
Qualifications Required
- Able and available to work Monday-Friday, hours vary depending on assignment - exceptions will be considered. Earliest assignment at 7:30 a.m.
- 2:40 p.m. Must be able to work at various locations as needed. - Able to work in any classroom, including all special services classrooms.
- Supervise the care of disabled children, including toileting and other needed responsibilities.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Show evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Demonstrate evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
- Demonstrate evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
- Use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Become first-aid certified, if required.
- Maintain evidence of positive evaluations, excellent attendance and punctuality, evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
- Adhere to and maintain confidentiality in accordance with the law and Columbia School District (CSD) policy.
Qualifications Preferred
- Demonstrate clerical skills, training and/or experience in using computers and other technology applications.
- Demonstrate flexibility with the varied demands of the position.
- Communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.
- Work with all children within the school regardless of abilities.
- Support and promote the curriculum.
- Support and actively implement building-wide and CSD's goals and Core Business as outlined in the CSD's Unified Instructional Core.
