• Elementary Para Educator. This temporary position covers a leave of absence from January 5, 2026, to April 17, 2026.
Job Title: Long Term Substitute - Elementary Para Educator
Reports To: Building Principals
Job Goal: To provide assistance and support to teachers and students in carrying out a high-quality instructional program.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must meet federal/state qualifications: 72 college quarter credits or completion of the Para Pro test with a score of 455 or higher.
- Preferred experience working with children or in an educational setting.
- Successfully pass a background check, including criminal history.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction to students through educational activities as assigned and supervised by the certificated staff.
- Assist the teacher in preparation, maintenance, assembly and return of instructional materials and equipment.
- Assist in scoring, collecting, organizing and recording data and information as needed.
- Maintain and assist in the preparation of various files, records, reports, etc. as directed.
- Assist in the supervision of students as assigned within the school building, on the school grounds, or on field trips.
- Function in compliance with guidelines established as criteria for each specific program as funded.
- Participate in services, staff development, and growth activities which will enhance job performance.
- Develop and maintain a positive classroom environment and professional relationships with others.
- Communicate with students, parents, and colleagues concerning academic and behavioral progress.
- Assist students in setting and maintaining high standards of classroom behavior, including developing a written classroom plan.
- Participate in district-wide improvement efforts and initiatives.
- Engage in professional learning and implement strategies to support multilingual learners.
- Work towards completing the Para Educator Fundamental Course of Study and receiving the Para Educator General Certificate.
- Be punctual and attend every assigned duty.
- Respect and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Maintain a neat, clean appearance and act as a positive role model.
- Assist in gathering materials for units or topics of study as directed.
- Assist in following designated procedures for storing and checking books and supplemental materials.
- Perform non-instructional duties, including supervision during non-instructional times.
- Work cooperatively with students, staff, administration, and parents.
- Perform other duties as assigned by building administrators or federal programs/assessment director.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Lift and carry 10–50 lbs. frequently.
- Use push and pull methods to move products in the work area.
- Perform tasks requiring arm extension, overhead reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting, twisting, and turning.
- Stand for the majority of the work shift.
- Maintain general good health.
- Meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
- Work near or with mechanical equipment.
Terms of Employment:
- Length: Temporary position covering a leave of absence from January 5, 2026, to April 17, 2026.
- Schedule: As assigned by building administrator.
- Salary and Benefits: Determined based on college credits and applicable experience, in accordance with state law and local board policy.
- Evaluation: Performance evaluated by the Early Childhood Director at least once during the temporary assignment.
