Dietary Aide – Pruitt Health
Job PurposeAssists with food preparation in accordance with our procedural guidelines, follows facility procedures for storing, serving, and transporting food and supplies, and is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Follow diet orders and NPO diet orders.
- Assist the cook in preparing meals, desserts, and snacks for patients/residents.
- Use proper food handling processes, procedures, and policies.
- Deliver trays to patients/residents in halls.
- Serve meals to patients/residents in the dining area.
- Prepare between‑meal nourishments (e.g., sandwiches) and serve in accordance with procedural guidelines.
- Offer menu substitutions and record them in accordance with procedural guidelines.
- Follow procedures for serving partner meals.
- Communicate warmly with patients/residents, families, and visitors, addressing concerns professionally.
- Answer questions in a helpful, caring manner.
- Clean tables in the dining area after each meal.
- Clean work area at the end of shift and after meals, including sweeping and mopping.
- Remove garbage from kitchen areas and hose out garbage containers.
- Comply with infection control policies.
- Scrape, wash dishes, pots, and pans.
- Record freezer and walk‑in refrigerator temperatures.
- Check stock as needed and store according to facility guidelines.
- Store cleaning materials appropriately.
- Set up and perform tray line service.
- Properly store leftovers and opened food.
- Make coffee/tea upon request.
- Clean kitchen equipment: carts, tables, counters, ice machine, buckets, blender, mixer, meat slicer, freezer, refrigerator, stove, steamer, garbage disposal, dish machine, coffee/tea maker, steam table, etc.
- Operate coffee & tea maker, dish machine, garbage disposal, mixer, blender, meat slicer, and steamer.
- Follow standardized recipes.
- Use serving equipment (ladle, spoon, scoops, etc.).
- Check and record water temperature (dishwasher, sink, etc.).
- Check dishwasher with sanitizer strips.
- Check chemical levels and replace if needed.
- Participate in center/agency surveys (Licensure / JCAHO) and related reports.
- Attend and participate in continuing education and mandatory in‑services to maintain license/certification.
- Honor patients/residents’ rights to fair treatment, privacy, and civil rights.
- Comply with the corporate compliance program.
- Report job‑related hazards, including blood and body fluid exposure.
- Follow safety regulations and procedures for equipment use.
Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy.
Minimum Experience RequiredNone. On‑the‑job training is provided.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred)- Previous food service and/or food preparation experience.
- Long‑term care dietary experience preferred.
