This position will work in the office with intermittent ability to work remotely as needed.

To ensure the Community Engagement Coordinator / Police Public Information Officer reflects the Bothell Police Department’s core values and maintains the highest level of public trust, job offers for this position are extended contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive law enforcement background investigation. This investigation includes completing a Personal History Statement (PHS) and a polygraph examination. It may involve interviews with personal and professional references, a review of the applicant’s online and social media presence, and verification of employment, education, and character.

Due to the public‑facing and media-sensitive nature of this position, and its frequent access to internal police operations, the background process mirrors that of other law enforcement support roles such as Police Support Officer.

The first round of application will be reviewed on Monday, January 5th.

• Provide crisis communication support as needed – on‑call outside normal hours, including extended shifts, weekends, and holidays during emergencies or critical incidents.
• Develop and manage public communications – plan, design, and implement communications and public information programs, including news releases, social media messaging, videos, PSAs, and outreach campaigns.
• Create multimedia and marketing content – produce content for various platforms (internet, TV, radio) to support crime prevention, public safety, and community engagement initiatives.
• Lead social media strategy – recommend and manage the Police Department’s ongoing social media approach to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging public messaging.
• Maintain Police Department website content – serve as the primary content manager for the Police Department’s webpages; ensure content remains current and informative.
• Collaborate with the City Communications Team – coordinate closely with the City’s Communications Team to align messaging and maintain consistent public information across departments.
• Build relationships with media outlets – establish and maintain professional connections with local traditional and non‑traditional media to enhance public outreach and media coverage.
