Position: Solid Waste/Parks Operator I
Location: MontesanoThis position provides technical assistance to the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor in the operation of solid waste and moderate risk waste programs and parks maintenance projects. This is an entry level position. Employees in this position may be required to perform portions or all of the duties normally falling under positions within or below this classification depending on current workload and staffing requirements.
Other duties may be assigned as required.
Responsibilities
Assists in the county moderate risk waste facility and waste oil collection programs, outreach for hazardous waste and recycling education.Responds to hazardous material spills associated with the moderate risk waste facility when necessary.Maintains compliance with WISHA and other applicable regulations governing the essential duties of this position.Completes project related technical tasks when staffing limitations or urgency requires such performance.Performs lawn and grounds maintenance, facility improvements and maintenance as necessary.Operates a variety of hand and power tools, landscaping equipment, and other equipment including tractors, bulldozer, backhoe and dump truck.Maintains equipment and facilities owned and/or operated by the department in good operating condition.Minimum Qualifications – Knowledge,
Skills and AbilitiesAbility to establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers and supervisors.Ability to work effectively and courteously with other governmental agencies and the general public.Knowledge of federal, state, and local solid waste and moderate risk waste rules, regulations, and guidelines.Skilled in the use of computers and word processing, database and spreadsheet software.Ability to work independently and organize workload.Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent.A valid Washington State Driver’s license and acceptable driving record.Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and Defensive Driving certifications.Ability to obtain certification in the following training within 3 months of hire: 40 hours HAZWOPPER training.Physical Requirements

Work is performed both in the office and in the field for extended periods under dirty and uncomfortable situations and in all types of weather and temperature conditions. May lift and carry up to 50 pounds; have exposure to smoke, fumes, etc.
