Job Summary
Following the Health Services program direction provided by the Certificated School Nurses, RN Year-Round Classified Nurse provide professional health care to students and staff to prevent, identify, and/or remediate health problems which may impair learning, social adjustment, or emotional well‑being of students.
The RN Year-Round Classified Nurse will be responsible for year‑round coverage supporting multiple schools over the course of the academic year, and serving students during the district’s summer programming.

Essential Functions- Utilizing program direction provided by Certificated RN, implement school's health services program following requirements established by school district’s policies, procedures, and protocols, and by local, state and national regulations and statues.
- May be assigned in a one-on-one capacity to implement the health care plan for an individual student with special health needs.
- May oversee daily operations of the assigned buildings’ health room including management of inventory and ensuring completion of all health-related documentation for school site.
- Provide professional nursing care, including emergency first aid treatment for student illness and injury occurring in school or while the student is under the jurisdiction of the school.
- Accurately administer medication, maintain documentation and care records, monitor effectiveness of medication and provide feedback to certificated nurses.
- Assist Certificated Nurses in the development, implementation, evaluation and documentation of health care plans to ensure appropriate care to students identified.
- Provide health related data for a variety multi-disciplinary teams at the building level to assess student health status, interpret medical records, make recommendations, and develop the health care components for students with identified health needs. May participate as the health team specialist as needed.
- Assist in coordinating and completing state mandated vision and hearing screening as required and in accordance with the Washington State Codes including re‑screenings and referrals as indicated.
- Provide basic asthma, food allergy, diabetes and seizure education for staff who have not received these trainings.
- Provide Medication Administration Training and Delegation and Category I Bloodborne Pathogen Training to summer school site coordinators/staff who have not received these trainings.
- Provide general health education and provide health counseling and guidance to students, school staff and parents.
- Orient building staff regarding individual student health needs.
- Utilize and maintain health records using district systems (Power School, Final Forms, School Care)
- Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases following the Infectious Disease Control and Immunization Guidelines.
- Work in cooperation with certificated and classified staff to promote a medically effective, friendly and caring atmosphere for students, staff and parents.
- Collaborate with Certificated Nurses and other Classified Nurses on a variety of topics impacting daily duties.
- May communicate with Licensed Health Providers, Parents, and others in the district or community as directed.
- Monitor school environment for safety and health concerns and alert administration of concerns identified.
- Maintain knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to nursing, health care, and school/public health.
- Fulfill the standard of care needed for each student within the scope of duties approved by the Mead School District and Nursing License while following
- District policies, procedures and state and federal law.
- Manage summer nursing operations (training staff, managing health care plans, building support for nursing care, on‑call for health emergencies during summer programs, maintain records for summer program staff)
- Complete all Annual Health Care Plan 2nd and/or 3rd contact calls for all buildings in the district.
