Summary
This position is responsible for providing accurate, safe, efficient and cost‑effective drug distribution, and pharmaceutical care services, either directly or indirectly, to the patients of the pharmacy through the efforts of supportive staff.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide accurate, efficient and appropriate pharmaceutical distribution services to patients by properly interpreting physicians’ drug orders and dispensing the appropriate medications.
- Review patient medical and pharmaceutical records and monitor for efficient drug therapy, drug interaction, adverse drug reactions, contraindication, allergies, and sensitivities.
- Develop and demonstrate commitment to the self‑directed development of clinical pharmacy practice skills under guidelines of the departmental staff development programs through identification of personal education goals and objectives.
- Administer immunizations.
- Communicate directly with both physicians and nurses regarding questions concerning patient drug therapy.
- Graduate from an accredited school of pharmacy with active pharmacist license in the state of Iowa.
- Obtain and maintain current certification required by the department to ensure abilities to deliver specialized services, such as Basic Cardiac Life Support, Immunization certification.
- Maintain current knowledge of State and Federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances and investigational agents; conduct personal practice in accordance with those requirements.
- BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with prevalent professional demeanor.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
- Well‑developed interpersonal skills and excellent customer service.
- Analytical skills to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Maintain professional technical knowledge.
