Underground Utility Locator

Position Summary

Underground Utility Locator – Vannguard Utility Partners, Inc. (Full‑time, Entry level). Salary: $20.00 – $26.00 per hour. The role involves working outdoors across multiple locations in Washington, IA and surrounding areas. Veterans are encouraged to apply.

• Drive a company vehicle from home to job sites for routine tickets, emergencies, and relocations.
• Use mapping tools, locating equipment, and utility maps to identify underground utilities (electric, gas, telephone, and other communication lines).
• Mark utility locations with paint and flags and provide relevant information to excavation personnel or authorities.
• Respond to after‑hours emergency call‑outs per the rotation schedule.
• Adhere to safety standards, complete jobs accurately, and maintain a drug‑free workplace.

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Valid driver’s license in the state of employment.
• Computer skills; 1 year of utility locating experience preferred.
• Ability to work overtime and respond to after‑hours calls.
• Commitment to safety and a drug‑free workplace.
• Excellent attention to detail and independent work capability.

• Drive 50–300+ miles daily as required.
• Get in and out of a vehicle 50+ times a day.
• Stand and walk over 1+ mile in uneven terrain, all weather conditions.
• Sit for long periods while driving.
• Lift or move 50–150 pounds.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Multiple locations (Washington, IA and surrounding communities).

Full‑time

• 10‑hour shift, Monday to Friday, on call, with overtime when required.

Entry level

This outdoor position involves minimal contact and interaction with others.
