Job Summary

The Mine Shift Supervisor supports safe, efficient underground development and production at Kinross Kettle River Operations. In the initial phase of the Curlew Basin Restart, this role serves as Kinross’s on-site representative overseeing the Contractor’s day-to-day development activities, ensuring compliance with standards, safety, and schedule requirements. As Kinross transitions into operating the mine directly, the role will shift into supervising Kinross’s production and development crews by driving safety and leading a high-performance team aligned with Kinross’s values and operational goals.

Functions
  • Oversee that the Contractor is working to all applicable standards.
  • Provide daily approval of the Contractor’s completed activities to the Mine Superintendent.
  • Coordinate the activities between the Kinross and Contractor crews.
  • Organize and lead Kinross’s crews to meet project plans, schedules and goals.
  • Conduct ground inspections and provide guidance on applicable ground support standards.
  • Clearly communicate the daily objectives and priorities to Kinross’s crews.
  • Provide instructions and training in the proper use of equipment.
  • Provide and coordinate available resources to set operating priorities to achieve daily goals.
  • Provide supervisory overview of the production cycle, development cycle and mine services installations by both Kinross and Contractor.
  • Monitor mining equipment and tools for proper functioning and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Monitor, track and document Contractor delays.
  • Review and provide input on Contractor Change Order Requests.
  • Conduct mine inspections to ensure safety and quality standards are being met by employees and contractors.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, material movements, and any safety incidents or irregularities.
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate inventories of mine related supplies.
  • Responsible for thinking ahead and scheduling daily activities for more than 7 days in advance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other departments.
  • Operate a company vehicle and other equipment as assigned.
  • Ensure those on the shift are upholding Kinross Kettle River policies and procedures.
  • Communicate and coordinate regularly with Mine Technical Services personnel.
  • Assist in the preparation of Weekly and Monthly Forecasts and deliver to them.
  • Develop and train employees to standards for safe and efficient equipment operation.
  • Communicate and coordinate, verbally and digitally, with the Mine Operations Center.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications And Skills
  • 10 years of experience working in an underground mine.
  • 5 years of experience supervising a team.
  • High School or equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of all underground mining practices and procedures.
  • Ability to operate mining equipment at the highest standards and production rates.
  • Ability to make decisions relative to production and maintenance.
  • Understanding of mine health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Ability to supervise a team and work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of underground mining methods, safety legislation, ground control, and equipment.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to coach, support, and develop crews.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to document and track shift performance.
  • Ability to work in underground environments, including exposure to noise, vibration, temperature extremes, and physical demands.
  • Valid driver’s license and authorized to work in the US.
