Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The Division of Continuing Education is seeking a part-time College & Career Readiness Instructor. Classes focus on helping students acquire the academic and life skills that will lead toward a high school equivalency diploma and positive transition to post-secondary training and careers. The purpose of the position is to increase the educational level of adults through instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies and communication skills.
The classes will be held Monday through Friday at Hyde Correctional Institution in Swan Quarter, NC. This position reports to the Director of College & Career Readiness.
Please note, any offers of employment are contingent upon approval of the Hyde Correctional Institution Warden.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in education or a related field. Ability to obtain and maintain NC Department of Public Safety (prisons) security clearance, and Microsoft Office skills. Experience teaching adult learners or in secondary/post secondary educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in adult education or related field.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course outlines and state curriculum designed for a variety of learning styles
- Maintain accurate registration, attendance, payroll records, and student portfolios for each class taught
- Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles
- Maintain a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security
- Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions
- Maintain a high level of professionalism as a representative of the college
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of student information, student records, and client/patient information in accordance with federal privacy laws
