SummaryThe Pacific West Region is recruiting for temporary summer seasonal positions not to exceed 1,039 hours work in a service year. Dates of summer employment will vary depending on funding, weather conditions, projects and visitation. Within regulatory limitations, the length of initial appointment may be shortened or extended depending on work availability and funding.
Responsibilities- Operate and maintain hand and power tools (e.g. mowers, shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, blowers, etc.) to maintain buildings, grounds, and roads.
- Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Dig ditches, clean gutters, shovel snow.
- Maintain lawns and grounds.
- Perform custodial, maintenance, and groundwork duties as needed.
- Transport people or materials in a motor vehicle to and from destinations within the park.
Moderate to very heavy physical effort. Lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80–100 pounds with assistance.
Working ConditionsOutside work performed under all kind of weather conditions. Indoor work accomplished in office buildings or well‑lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. Possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Follow safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel‑toe shoes.
Requirements- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Valid driver's license required. Submit Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record from all states that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past.
- Uniform required. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- May be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- Applicants must be at least 16 years old with high school graduation or equivalent, or meet one of the following: graduate high school; complete a formal vocational training program; receive a statement from school authorities agreeing with preference for employment; or be currently enrolled in secondary school and work only during school vacation periods or part‑time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
- Travel, transportation & relocation expenses will not be paid. Relocation expenses will be the employee's responsibility.
- Have the ability to do the work of a Laborer (Motor Vehicle Operating) without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT)
- Work experience using a variety of light hand and power tools (mowers, shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, blowers).
- Operate heavy power equipment such as chainsaws, lawnmowers, string trimmers, weed whackers, brush cutters, chippers, etc. to clear brush and maintain grounds and roads.
- Experience driving and towing equipment over federal, state, and county roads in all weather conditions.
- Maintain road barriers, dig ditches, shoveled dirt and asphalt, loaded/unloaded heavy supplies, organized and cleaned work area, kept vehicles, trailers, and equipment clean and operable; performed general landscaping.
