Overview

A Kroger Bakery Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while encouraging other associates to do the same. The team member establishes and maintains a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return, assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals, monitors quality assurance standards, and demonstrates Kroger’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Inform customers of bakery specials.
  • Provide customers with fresh products that match the order and correct portion size.
  • Recommend bakery items to customers.
  • Use all equipment (refrigerators, freezers, ovens, etc.) according to company guidelines.
  • Prepare foods according to the temperature logs and follow cooking/baking instructions.
  • Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe.
  • Prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients.
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness and review sell‑by dates.
  • Properly use kitchen equipment (stove, scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe).
  • Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Locate products when requested by customers.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
  • Maintain knowledge of products sold and respond to questions.
  • Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates.
  • Create an environment that welcomes customers and answers questions.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Reinforce safety programs and identify unsafe conditions.
  • Display a positive attitude.
  • Practice preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Notify management of accidents or safety risks.
  • Report all safety risks, issues, and illegal activity.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Desire to gain an understanding of food production and basic cooking techniques.
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a sense of urgency.
  • Good basic math skills.
  • Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without accommodation.
