Position: 1019-2025: Para-Overload Support-4th Grade (Temporary)

Cape Horn‑Skye Elementary School

2 hours per day (12:30 pm – 2:30 pm) Regular days

2 hours per day (11:45 am – 1:45 pm) Wednesday

2 hours per day (9:30 am – 11:30 am) Conference/last day

These are variable hour positions that may change based on the number of students

Start and end times are subject to variation based upon changing needs

Student attendance days only

(60 work days probation for new employees)
Rate of pay: $24.08 – $27.63

Purpose

of the Para educator

The job of Para educator is done for the purpose/s of assisting a certificated teacher in the supervision and instruction of individual and/or small groups of students; and providing instructional and clerical support to teacher/s and staff.

This job reports to Building Administrator

Essential Duties
  • Administers a variety of assessments (e.g. reading fluency, DIBELs) for the purpose of providing information regarding student progress.
  • Assists special education students and other identified students, under the general direction of the teacher (e.g. reading explain words, reading to the students, arts and crafts, classroom activities, individual assignments, etc.) for the purpose of an opportunity for the students to participate in classroom activities.
  • Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories, listen to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforce English lesson, provide spelling practice, facilitate activities, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching their academic goals and grade level standards.
  • Attends meetings and in‑service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Confers with teacher/s (e.g. special education and/or mainstream teacher) for the purpose of assisting in evaluating special education student progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Implements instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students’ academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Instructs special education students and other identified students, one on one or in small groups (e.g. math groups, providing proper examples, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing verbal skills, etc.) for the purpose of assisting students in making progress on their IEP goals.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, work area, student files/records (e.g. adapting instructional materials, cleaning work area, taking attendance, checking homework, grading papers, lunch counts, emergency cards, audio visual equipment, etc.) For the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
  • Modifies classroom work/homework for the purpose of providing a method of support and/or reinforce academic objectives.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of enforcing school rules and procedures and/or providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. copying, decorate classroom, collect/distribute supplies etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or providing necessary records/materials.
  • Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcome and encouraging student development.
  • Records observations and incidents relating to specific students for the purpose of documentation and/or communicating information to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries from staff (e.g. administrators, psychologists, teachers, etc.) for the purpose of information.
