Essential

Functions
  • Advise and train students and other passengers on appropriate behavior for the purpose of enforcing regulations to maintain passenger safety.
  • Assess incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution.
  • Assist students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, etc. for the purpose of maintaining and/or learning new skills and meeting the certificate requirement/s of a school bus driver.
  • Clean vehicles, both interior and exterior for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.
  • Communicate with school personnel, parents, etc. of events and/or practices for the purpose of advising them of issues that may require action.
  • Conduct emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements.
  • Drive school bus/s for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or in a safe and timely manner.
  • Fuel vehicle for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines.
  • Prepare documents and reports for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Report observations and/or incidents for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.
  • Respond to inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
  • Supervise students and other passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining safety, order, and rights and following district policy.
Other Functions
  • Assist other personnel as needed for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skills are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required include safety practices; operating transport equipment (buses, vans); and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge is required to perform basic math, understand written procedures, write routine documents, speak clearly, and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required includes safety procedures; pertinent codes, policies, regulations and laws; and area streets and locations.

Abilities required include scheduling activities; collating data; and considering a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in varied circumstances. Independent problem solving and communication with diverse groups are essential. Maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines, working as part of a team, and maintaining a positive attitude are also required.

Responsibilities

Working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget.

Working Environment

Physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; significant fine finger dexterity. The job requires 80% sitting, 15% walking, and 5% standing. Environmental conditions vary; some hazardous conditions may be present.
