Seasonal Summer Overnight Female Counselor (Summer 2026)

Position Title: Lead Female Counselor

Corps/Department: Salvation Army, King’s Lake Camp

Reports To: Summer Camp Director

FLSA Status: Temporary, Full-time;
Exempt

Dates of Employment: Summer 2026

Scope of Position
:
The position will reside at the Kings Lake Camp Site, providing free housing and meals. The counselor will give leadership and care to a group of approximately 6-10 campers, ensuring their safety, health, and program involvement. Duties include guiding campers through a positive experience in alignment with the goals of King’s Lake Camp. Compensation is $448.00 weekly plus room and board, and a one‑time travel expense to and from camp.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass all background checks required by The Salvation Army.
  • Prior camp experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work with young people aged 7 years and older.
  • Demonstrated efficiency and good judgment in performing duties.
  • Will stay at camp during the session to receive room and board.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership and guidance to counselors.
  • Lead and care for a group of 6‑10 campers.
  • Guide campers through all program components.
  • Supervise groups during all meal times.
  • Direct and supervise daily clean‑up of the cabin living area.
  • Conduct daily group devotions at designated times.
  • Accompany groups to all camp‑related activities.
  • Complete forms related to campers, program evaluation, or health documentation.
  • Assist in all camp program activities as directed.
  • Attend and participate in camp programs.
  • Participate actively in the spiritual formation of campers and staff.
  • Ensure campers respect personal property, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and campers.
  • Ensure campers adhere to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Provide supervision and physical/emotional safety for campers and staff.
  • Maintain a standard of cleanliness in personal grooming and living quarters.
  • Assist in the clean‑up of the camp at the end of sessions/summer.
  • Assist with all other duties as assigned.

Protect the Mission
:
Must complete the online course for this area and pass the required background checks to be employed.

Work Environment
:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in cool to warm weather. Noise levels are generally low with occasional motor or equipment noise. May require working outdoors in wet conditions for extended periods and may include activities in wooded areas.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently; to grasp, reach, handle, push, or pull objects.
  • Ability to see and hear at normal ranges, with corrective devices if necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., or more with assistance.

Language Skills
:
Must understand, follow, and give both written and oral instructions, and be comfortable working with diverse individuals face‑to‑face and over the telephone. Speech and hearing are required for ordinary and telephone conversation.
