Walgreens Pharmacy Technician positions have transitioned from a transaction‑based environment to a more patient‑centric model. As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will interact directly with customers and develop strong patient relationships, supported by the latest pharmacy technology and training opportunities.
Walgreens offers an “earn while you learn” Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor, guiding candidates toward becoming Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technicians.
Responsibilities- Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and in performing other pharmacy department duties in accordance with company policies.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, greeting and offering assistance to customers.
- Assist in the practice of pharmacy and comply with Walgreens Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Enter patient and drug information accurately, fill prescriptions, verify medicine, and check for interactions.
- Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty.
- Handle cash register operations and process manual claims for third‑party prescription services.
- Support inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
- Assist pharmacists in performing clinical services, including collection and labeling of blood/urine samples.
- Maintain a clean, stocked, and orderly pharmacy department.
- Assist Pharmacy Manager and staff pharmacist in developing relationships with the local medical community.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
- Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices with all team members.
- Develop strong relationships with the most valuable customers.
- Assist in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision and review compliance with company policy.
- Enter and verify prescription data, count and measure medications, and assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during all prescription dispensing activities.
- Register sales on the assigned cash register, handle cash, and guide customers to the OTC aisle.
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state required certification/registration.
- Attend manager‑requested training and acquire continuing education credits.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Strong math skills for accurate prescription counting, measuring, and weighing.
- Good computer skills.
- Knowledge of store inventory control.
- PTCB certification.
