** Position Summary
** Collect lab specimens and perform basic laboratory test and reporting of results.#
** Position Responsibilities
*** Reads at least each year and follows established Lab Policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing; test analysis; reporting and maintaining record of patient test results for:  + Send outs  + Hematology  + Coagulation  + Urinalysis  + Chemistry  + Special Chemistry  + Blood Banking  + Microbiology
* As evidenced by work sheets, direct observation, cumulative reports, unknowns, feedback from others.
* Adheres to Lab’s established Continuous Quality Improvement and Quality Control policies and programs as evidenced by worksheets and direct observation.
* Is capable of performing work in an organized, timely manner while maintaining a high quality of work as evidenced by direct observation and time checks.
* Is able to assess age specific Lab Data:
Pediatric, Adult, Elderly as evident by work sheet comments, direct observation, written competency material.
* Is able to interpret age specific Lab Data:
Pediatric, Adult, Elderly as evident by work sheet comments, phone log, direct observation, written competency material.
* Uses good judgment and creativity in finding solutions to problems and meeting the needs of others as evidenced by observation, feedback from others.
* Demonstrates adaptability; able to shift readily to other tasks or assignments; transferring and applying skills and knowledge to changes in the job as evidenced by technical performance, observation, feedback from others.
* Helps develop, maintains and follows recording system that demonstrates that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples as evidenced by work sheets and direct observation.
* Documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed. Troubleshoots whenever test systems are not within acceptable limits; notifies Lab Manager of system failure and action taken as evidenced by q.c. records, Cal sheets, maint. Sheets, observation and feedback from others.
* Requests supplies as necessary to keep materials on hand at all times as evidenced by observation, items needed sheet.
* Participates in development of Lab’s continuous quality improvement procedures (PDSA’s); writes or heads one project each year as evidenced by written procedures, projects, attendance sheets.
* Follows Lab Policies and Procedures whenever test systems are not within the Lab’s established level of performance as evidenced by lab records, observation, feedback.
* Must be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and must work to correct the problem and notify the technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or lab manager as evidenced by work sheets, analyzer records, observation.
* Must participate in peer review of work and perform delta checks as indicated as evidenced by work sheets, observation, feedback.
