Position: Water Safety Instructor I/II (Thousand Hour) DOE

This position is responsible for providing water safety instruction, pool safety and quality customer service at Borough pool facilities.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values:
Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

E1 - DOE
F1 - DOE

High school diploma or equivalent.

One year of experience performing similar duties, sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.

American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer;
American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid; and, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical.

Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy.

  • Provides customer service to pool patrons; provides information and assistance; admits patrons and collects fees; completes required revenue and attendance documentation, maintains usage records.
  • Provides lifeguarding services; educates pool patrons and observers about pool safety; administers emergency first aid/CPR/AED as needed; completes incident reports.
  • Instructs swimming lessons, Water Safety Instructor training, and other pool programs.
  • Monitors and regulates pool and spa conditions to prevent accidents and minimize hazardous conditions; ensures the proper handling, storage, and application of pool chemicals adhering to safety protocols and industry standards.
  • Open and close the facility; secure daily deposits when closing the facility.
  • Conducts tours of the facility.
  • Completes required reports.
  • Performs related duties.
