Our client is a global manufacturer of precision metal components with a strong presence in automotive, electronics, and consumer goods is seeking a Junior Quality Engineer for its Waterbury, CT facility. This role will support quality initiatives, assist with compliance to industry standards, and collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure products meet the company’s high standards of excellence.

SUMMARY OF PURPOSE

The key purpose of this position is to assist the QM in maintaining and improving the current ISO 9001 quality system & SPC system, while providing support to production & continuous improvement efforts through the use of statistical tools and other analytical equipment and resources. This highly visible position interacts daily across all organizational levels of H&T Waterbury’s team. This hands on position requires a team player with attention to detail to flourish in a small department.

Key Responsibilities Quality System
  • Assist in improvements to the quality system including development and revision of control plans, procedures, work instructions and forms.
  • Train personnel in established standards, procedures and work instructions to ensure competency.
  • Conduct, coordinate and support quality system audits.
  • Participate in and subsequently lead Problem Solving teams, utilizing root cause analysis tools.
  • Initiate, develop and coordinate corrective and preventive actions for products and processes.
Departmental / Laboratory
  • Develop and update quality plans including development and evaluation of gage methodologies. Maintain accurate gage calibration records.
  • Perform laboratory work to support Quality and Product Development.
  • Use measurement devices and fixtures, to perform critical First Article testing.
  • Develop, update and evaluate various methods for products and processes.
  • Audit/inspect products and processes for defects or deviations
  • Sample product lots on hold to accurately obtain defect rates.
  • Prepare samples for external testing by vendors and outside labs
  • Champion DOE, SPC, Gage R&R and statistical analysis for process and product improvements.
  • Promote and become involved in continual improvement of quality and reliability of material, manufacturing processes, inspection, equipment and methods as necessary.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through the use of statistical tools and by participating in Kaizen events as needed.
  • Usage of 5S workplace methodology
Project Management
  • Plan, coordinate, and communicate project activities in the form of timelines, project plans, or status updates.
  • Independently follow up and organize projects through to completion.
BACKROUND / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree or CQE preferred. Statistical familiarity.
  • Recent college/university graduate and up to 3 years’ experience preferred.
Qualifications
  • Team player willing to perform any task at hand.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and personnel.
  • Project Management: plan, coordinate, and communicate project activities in the form of timelines, project plans, status updates, and reports.
  • Prepare and deliver effective presentations.
  • Working knowledge in the following areas: statistical methods, measurement systems including both contact and non-contact equipment, ISO 9001 quality system, creativity and problem solving tools.
  • Advanced Computer skills:
    Minitab, Excel, Word, or statistical software. Ability to develop complex databases and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and engineering instructions, including GD&T.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Quality Planning.
  • Ability to prioritize and reconcile requirements from many sources in house as well as external, customers, suppliers, subcontractors etc.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent projects through on time to completion.
  • Ability to manage and maintain critical information in hardcopy or electronic formats.
  • Ability to organize data from several sources into concise and useful information.
  • Attention to detail, necessary for accurate reporting and communication.
  • Experience in using a variety of measurement devices.
