General Statement Of Responsibilities

The Recovery Support Specialist works as a member of an interdisciplinary team to implement and monitor treatment for individuals engaged in the Pregnant and Parenting residential program at Wellmore Behavioral Health. The Recovery Support Specialist will combine personal recovery experience with professional training to mentor individuals during their recovery and wellness journey. The Recovery Support Specialist will utilize a strength-based, client-centered approach to assist the individual in eliminating any personal or environmental barriers to remain engaged in services and achieving their individualized recovery and parenting goals.

Hours:

12:00 PM-8:00 PM or 1:00 PM-9:00 PM. Must be able to work evenings and some weekends.

Examples Of Responsibilities
  • Provide recovery and community-based interventions within scope of practice with individuals being served, as required, and directed by the treatment plan. Including but not limited to facilitation of peer support groups, psycho educational groups and individual sessions to help clients achieve their treatment plan goals and success in the program.
  • Responsible for outreach and client engagement throughout the community. Work with other Recovery Support Specialist throughout the agency to ensure clients are able to access services needed and help to connect individuals with care to help promote long term recovery.
  • Assist with residential components of the programs. Including but not limited to supervising clients throughout the shift to ensure client safety. Including client counts, supervised drug screening, supervised smoke breaks and client down time. Support clients in completing their activities of daily living (ADLs) for themselves and their child.
  • Responsible for transportation and supervision of clients in the community to appointments, medical, court, etc. when assigned by the Program Manager and to act as a recovery support when not physically in the building/program.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate therapeutic relationships with clients in accordance with all agency policies and protocols. Acts as a positive role model for individuals being served and demonstrates a recovery oriented and healthy lifestyle.
  • Responsible for submitting and maintaining clinical records in a manner that assures compliance with all agency policies and procedures. Maintain clinical documentation that meets all departmental, divisional, agency, local, state, and federal expectations and regulations. Complete and maintain documentation within identified agency software.
  • Provide coverage as needed for co-workers during vacations, holidays, and/or periods of absence. Helps to ensure that the program is fully covered at all times.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, agency and community committees and work groups as assigned by management. May be required to participate in trainings (both on site and off site) as determined by the Director of Residential Services and/or Vice President of Adult Services.
Qualifications

Education/Experience
High School diploma or equivalent with 4 years of relevant experience or Associate’s degree in a mental health or human services discipline with 2 years of relevant experience preferred. Requires current, valid Connecticut driver’s license. Ability to provide a strength-based, client-centered approach to the delivery of service. Demonstrated experience in a similar program, internship or related employment desired, preferably with two years of relevant experience.

Must openly identify as a person who has lived experience of substance use and substance use recovery.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
Recovery Support Specialist Certification from Advocacy Unlimited, Recovery Coach Certification from CCAR, or an equivalent certification related to the field of Recovery Support required. Will be required to maintain certification in compliance with all licensing bodies. Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is required and must be CPR and First Aid Certified.
