Position

LSI is seeking part‑time Respite Providers to provide respite care services in Waterloo and surrounding Cedar Valley areas (Black Hawk, Bremer, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, and/or Tama counties). The purpose is to give parents or primary caregivers a break from the daily responsibilities of caring for a child or adult with a disability.

Overview

If you have a passion to serve, good communication skills, and the discipline to set your own schedule, this role may be right for you. Families need a break from 24/7/365 care and supervision of their loved one. You could provide a few hours a week or a weekend, giving families time to relax and rejuvenate.

Hours are flexible and may include evenings or weekends. The position also has the potential to work from home after a probationary period.

Great for college students or anyone looking for a second job to bring in extra income while helping another family.

Basic computer skills and access to a laptop/tablet or smartphone are required.

Responsibilities

This position provides all care required to a child or adult with a disability while their parent or guardian is absent, maintaining a safe and nurturing home‑based environment.

Duties include:

  • Providing respite care at the client’s home, in the community, or in your own home when requested.
  • Adhering to the client’s specific care preferences and schedules.
  • Keeping accurate time‑keeping and documentation records using computer tools.

There are no guaranteed or set hours. You may work a few hours one day and then have several weeks or months without scheduled work.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills for time‑keeping and documentation.
Requirements

This role requires a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, a good driving record, and the ability to pass an extensive background check (including the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry, and criminal history check).
