Locations: Ames, IA and Lakeland, FL
Pay: $18–$45/hr DOE
Type: Full-time or Part-time
· Paid training from day one, no degree required
If you’ve been searching for “installer jobs near me” or “handyman jobs near me” and you want steady, on-the-truck work that pays real money — this is a real job. We install automotive lifts (two-post, four-post, mobile columns, alignment systems) for dealer groups, tire chains, collision networks, and independent shops. You’ll be part of a two-person install crew traveling out of Ames, Iowa or Lakeland, Florida.
Full-time or part-time. No degree required, paid training from day one.
Show up at a customer’s shop with a lift on a trailer. Unload it, position it, anchor it into the slab, wire it up, commission it, walk the customer through the safety features, get their signature, drive to the next job. Two-person crew — you’ll usually be paired with an experienced tech, or after your paid training you’ll be the experienced tech leading a helper.
The actual work:
- Concrete drilling and epoxy anchoring for two-post and four-post lifts.
- Hydraulic hose routing and connection.
- Cable routing, arm alignment, and safety-cam calibration.
- Electrical hookup to customer-provided service (working with our electrical tech when needed).
- ALI safety inspection on every install before the customer signs off.
- Loading and unloading with forklift or overhead crane. Forklift certification is paid for by us if you don’t already have it.
- Handyman-level mechanical ability. If you’ve built a deck, wired a garage, or overhauled a lawn mower, you have the aptitude.
- Physical work capacity — you’ll be lifting, drilling, and standing for most of your shift.
- Valid driver’s license. CDL a bonus, not required.
- Willingness to travel a regional service area. Occasional overnights for larger installs.
- Ability to read install manuals and follow a job sheet.
$18–$45/hr depending on experience. New hires with no lift-install experience start in the low-to-mid $20s during paid training. After certification and 6–12 months in the role, most crew members are in the high $20s to low $30s. Lead installers with 3+ years hit the top of the range. We also pay merit bumps for crews that install multiple lifts per day cleanly.
- Health and dental insurance
- 10 days paid time off per year
- Uniforms provided
- Service truck, tools, and phone for field-based roles
- Paid training on ALI certification, forklift, aerial lift, and manufacturer-specific training
Full-time is a five-day-a-week field schedule with occasional overnights. Part-time works if you’re supplementing another job or gradually building into this trade — three or four days a week, mostly local, less travel. Talk to us about what your schedule needs to look like.
Who Thrives Here- Handymen and construction guys tired of chasing jobs and want steady W-2 work.
- Ex-military — logistics, mechanical, construction MOS all cross over cleanly.
- Second-career hires who’ve done physical work their whole life and want a real trade for the next 20 years.
- Young workers who don’t want a four-year degree and want to earn while learning a skill.
- You can’t stand travel. Most jobs are day trips inside a regional service area, but they’re not in the same building every day.
- You want strictly office work.
- Physical work is a deal breaker — this role is mostly on your feet with tools in hand.
