Prospero Teaching is delighted to be supporting a welcoming SEN specialist school in Waterlooville who are seeking a dedicated and experienced teacher to join their mixed Year 1/2 class from January 2026.
This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact by supporting a small class of 9 pupils with a range of SEN needs, most with a diagnosis of Autism. The children are pre‑verbal and follow a play‑ and sensory‑based curriculum, designed to build confidence, resilience, and engagement with learning in a safe and structured environment.
About the Role- Delivering high‑quality teaching to a mixed Year 1/2 class of 9 pupils, supported by 4 Teaching Assistants
- Planning and delivering play‑based and sensory‑focused interventions tailored to pupils working at low EYFS levels
- Creating and adapting resources to ensure accessibility and engagement for pre‑verbal learners
- Supporting pupils to develop communication, social skills, self‑esteem, and positive relationships with peers and adults
- Working closely with the SENCo, Headteacher, parents, and external professionals to provide holistic support
- Promoting inclusion and helping pupils progress at their own pace within a supportive SEN school environment
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – preferably with some experience (not suitable for ECTs)
- Experience teaching EYFS and/or KS1, ideally with SEN involvement
- Strong understanding of Autism, sensory‑based learning, and inclusive practice
- Empathy, patience, and creativity in supporting children with complex needs
- A genuine passion for helping pupils thrive academically, socially, and emotionally
