Department: Facilities
Reports to: Assistant Director of Facilities
Status: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt, benefit eligible
Location: On campus in Watertown, Connecticut
Schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (40 hours per week, including a 30-minute unpaid meal break) [confirm], with occasional evening or weekend work and on-call availability for emergencies
Hourly wage range:$26.00 – $33.00 per hour

The Utility Tradesman installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing and HVAC systems in the School's buildings, dormitories, and grounds. The role keeps these systems safe and reliable for students, staff, and visitors, and responds to service requests and emergencies across campus.
ResponsibilitiesPlumbing and HVAC
- Inspect plumbing and HVAC systems and perform preventive maintenance in line with safety regulations and School policy
- Diagnose and repair plumbing and HVAC problems in school buildings and dormitories
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies
- Coordinate with outside contractors when specialized services are needed
Campus Support
- Set up and break down for school events and activities
- Support seasonal work such as snow removal and storm preparation
Records
- Keep accurate records of work performed and materials used
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical or trade school certification in plumbing, HVAC, or a related trade [confirm required or preferred]
- Proven experience in plumbing and HVAC maintenance and repair
- Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with staff, faculty, students, and outside vendors
- Valid driver's license
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Climb ladders
- Work indoors and outdoors in all weather
