Summary Description
Buckingham Browne & Nichols School is seeking a Middle School Dean of Students. Reporting to the Campus Director, the Middle School Dean of Students is a key member of the Middle School Leadership Team who oversees and coordinates the student life experience at the Middle School. The Dean fosters an inclusive and positive community culture through student-centered programming and leadership of the Advisory Program, in collaboration with the Health & Wellness Curriculum Coordinator, Grade Team Leaders, Middle School DEIG Practitioner, and faculty.
Guided by our community expectations, the Dean promotes awareness, empathy, reflection, and accountability in both group and individual settings, creating opportunities for growth through partnership with students, advisors, faculty, and families. The Dean also manages our student behavior system and group dynamics to maintain a positive and supportive environment. This is a full-year position with regular school-day hours and occasional evening or weekend commitments.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the Middle School Leadership Team.
- Lead the development of Middle School student programs that advance the five elements of the Framework for Academic Excellence, with particular emphasis on Connection & Belonging, Student Empowerment & Voice, and Equity for All.
- Partner with the MS DEIG Campus Practitioner to advance the integration of DEIG in all student programming through prioritizing DEIG commitments and collaborating to establish best practices.
- Lead student behavior conversations emphasizing ownership, reflection, and understanding of intent versus impact.
- Model strength-based approach to student interventions/communications/problem solving.
- Supports advisors to meet student needs using an identity-conscious educator lens within our MS Student Support Team (SST).
- Oversee student behavior system and attendance, including investigations and disciplinary responses.
- Work in key collaboration with grade team leaders to coordinate the advising program and community-building initiatives.
- Chairs the Student Life and Community Culture team meeting (SLaCC), and partners with that team to elevate and center student experience.
- Oversee the student transitions: 6th to 7th Grade and 8th to 9th Grade.
- Coordinate daily morning slides and run our Community Middle School Morning Meeting.
- Teach one class within their teaching discipline. Assists or performs any other duties as requested.
- Master’s Degree in Education Administration or a related field with 10 years of school-based experience that demonstrates growth in responsibilities and leadership over time.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field.
- Middle School experience.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

- Excellent organizational skills with the proven ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to effectively use BB&N technology systems and learn new systems as they emerge.
