Position SummarySupervises day‑to‑day classroom operations and communication with parents. Works with teaching team to plan and implement age‑appropriate activities, and to provide a caring environment where children are safe and secure. Cares for the health, welfare, and safety of children under five years of age in a group setting.
Key Responsibilities- Establish a classroom environment that promotes the health, safety, and well‑being of all children daily.
- Operate with the standard that all BCH, DEEC, and center policies are adhered to daily.
- Establish healthy breakfast and snacks for the children in the group while addressing food allergies per Individual Health Care Plans and family dietary restrictions daily.
- Adhere to diapering/toileting policies per the Department of Early Education and Care policies and procedures daily.
- Collaborate with the teaching team weekly to discuss the development of all individual children and then plan and develop a play‑based, child‑led curriculum.
- Intentionally promote equity and inclusion daily by making intentional teaching decisions while developing and implementing curriculum.
- Implement the planned curriculum by collecting toys and materials throughout the building to set up and open the classroom daily. Observe and document assigned primary care children daily in advance of writing assessments quarterly or semi‑annually depending on the child’s age.
- Complete all required developmental assessments as required by DEEC: every 6 months for children age 15 months to 5 years; every 3 months for infants.
- Complete developmental books tracking each child’s development. Distribute the Ages and Stages Questionnaire to assigned primary care parents.
- Collect and score ASQ(s) using the data to identify any red flags in normal growth and development quarterly or semi‑annually depending on the age of the child.
- Meet with parents quarterly or semi‑annually to discuss developmental assessments.
- Develop each child’s executive function to allow children to manage their thoughts, emotions, and behavior as they pursue goals daily. These skills include attention, working memory, self‑regulation, reasoning, problem‑solving, and approaches to learning.
- Document formative assessments daily that are used to measure progress toward goals, informing and modifying real‑time instruction to improve learning outcomes.
- Report unusual or extreme behavior that may indicate emotional, developmental, or physical problems as it happens, helping to plan and implement interventions for children with extra needs as needed.
- Maintain annual professional qualifications registration with DEEC, complete 20 hours of professional development annually with a 25 % focus on special needs.
- Attend monthly staff meetings per DEEC regulations, complete mandatory background record check every 3 years, including CORI, SORI, DCF, and fingerprinting.
- Communicate daily with parents reporting each child’s day through written daily notes and spoken words (Infant–Preschool). Complete weekly classroom reports to be shared with parents via weekly newsletters (Preschool).
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 3–5 years of professional teaching experience with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers
- Department of Early Education and Care Certification required
- First Aid/CPR certified required
