Job Description

This hybrid role is responsible for both ensuring product quality through final inspection and supporting manufacturing operations by operating parts washing equipment. The technician will perform a range of duties including inspection of parts, verifying product documentation, cleaning parts, preparing shipments, and loading/unloading trucks. The role requires adherence to safety, quality, productivity, and housekeeping standards while supporting overall plant operations.

  • Final Inspection Duties
    • Perform quality inspections and document inspection results using a variety of inspection equipment.
    • Perform grain flow testing on automotive components to ensure material integrity and adherence to specification.
    • Analyze and interpret grain flow patterns to assess the quality and structural soundness of materials.
    • Carry out various laboratory tests, including hardness testing, tensile testing, and metallographic examination.
    • Prepare samples for testing by cutting, mounting, polishing, and etching materials as required.
    • Verify products received from outside services (e.g., heat treating, plating) via testing and documentation verification.
    • Accurately record test results and maintain detailed records of all testing activities.
    • Compile and present test data in technical reports, ensuring findings are communicated clearly to engineering and production teams.
    • Support the Gage Calibration System (ensure all gages are available and calibrated).
    • Sort mixed or non-conforming parts as needed.
    • Ensure all testing procedures comply with industry standards, automotive quality standards (e.g., IATF 16949), and company-specific guidelines.
    • Maintain daily housekeeping of the work area and Quality office, including filing of documentation.
    • Follow all safety protocols in the laboratory, ensuring a safe working environment.
    • Perform additional tasks as directed by Quality Management.
  • Parts Washing & Shipping Duties
    • Operate parts washer, solvent washer, and tumblers to clean various parts.
    • Prepare outgoing shipments, ensuring proper packaging and documentation.
    • Load and unload trucks for incoming and outgoing shipments.
    • Receive and check incoming products, ensuring accuracy and quality.
    • Enter data related to parts washing and shipping activities into computer systems.
    • Assist in training other employees as necessary.
    • Work in other areas of the plant as requested by the supervisor.
  • General Duties
    • Maintain focus and accuracy in both inspection and washing operations.
    • Ensure compliance with on-time delivery, productivity, safety, quality, and housekeeping metrics.
    • Participate in daily housekeeping of work areas.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Ability to focus and prioritize tasks and objectives.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, including data entry, Word, Excel, and email.
  • Ability to drive or learn to drive a forklift and be able to get on and off the forklift multiple times daily.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.) and interpreting blueprints/part drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of algebra, geometry, decimals, fractions, and metric/English conversions.
  • Ability to work in a moderately clean manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to maintain focus and accuracy through repetitive product inspection.
  • Effective problem solving/prioritizing skills required.
  • Ability to use and care for precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, comparator, attribute gages).
  • Must be proficient in interpreting blueprints/part drawings.
  • Must be able to use and be familiar with Word, Excel, and email.
Compensation Information
