Overview
Fifth-Year Fellowship:
Office of Civic Engagement and Community Partnerships at Colby College. The fifth-year fellowship is a professional opportunity for a recent Colby graduate to expand their civic leadership skills, further their professional development and continue to serve in the Greater Waterville community. The fellowship will benefit Colby students who have demonstrated a deep commitment to civic engagement and building relationships between the campus and the Waterville community during their four years at the college.
The fellowship program model is designed to impact campus culture, strengthen relationships, cultivate a sense of community belonging, and maximize professional development opportunities by collaborating with key DOC student-facing offices, including Residential Education and Dean of Students offices. Fellows will forge new relationships across campus to build student interest in civic engagement and directly support the collaborative work being done in local schools.
Functions
To perform successfully in this position, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily as well as possess education/experience, employ the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed in representative fashion. - Supports school-based programs and partnerships (with supervision and assistance from the Associate Director):
- Monitor and maintain systems of data collection for school-facing and youth programs
- Provide consistent communication and support for student volunteers
- Communicate with site coordinators at local schools to ensure the needs of school sites are being met
- Coordinate the continuing education training series for volunteer development
- Coordinate program-wide events such as evening training, mentor interviews, and the CCAK Annual BBQ in early May
- Support and strengthen existing partnerships and programs within the schools
- Work with school partners to identify and develop project-based opportunities and programs in response to school
- Ability to contribute to student leadership development through training and programs
- Contribute to strategic planning and program-wide innovation and planning for the Office of Civic Engagement and Community Partnerships
- Participate in Colby’s Dean of the College Division monthly meetings and other responsibilities and activities as assigned
Education and/or experience:
- Recent Graduate of Colby College
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Require minimal supervision and possess the ability to take initiative; self-motivated
- Passionate about community building and civic engagement
- Ability to manage peers and comfortable interacting independently with local community partner organizations
- Previous experience with volunteer management/civic engagement programming at Colby is strongly desired
- To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate confidentiality with regard to employee data, documents, issues, etc., and respect privacy needs of employees and past employees with regard to the same.
- The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required.
- There may be occurrences of employees, past employees, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations.
