MMRACE is a public adult education program serving adults in the Greater Waterville area—including Waterville, Winslow, Vassalboro, Oakland, Belgrade, China, Sidney, & Rome—towards their academic and career-related goals. We have sites in two communities within our service region:
Waterville and Oakland. This position will be assigned to the Waterville site.
MMRACE is seeking a dedicated and dynamic instructor for a part‑time schedule starting January 2026. The instructor will work with other HiSET instructors to support learners in the HiSET program via weekly learning labs, focusing on adult education and learner success.

- English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes – Resource & Career Navigation

January 12, 2026 - Hours:
16.5 hours per week; 8.25 hours each day (Mondays and Wednesdays) - Pay rate: $32.00/hr
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction in HiSET subject areas:
Language Arts (Reading/Writing) and Social Studies. - Assess learners’ current knowledge levels and develop personalized learning plans.
- Prepare learning materials appropriate to learners’ skill levels.
- Monitor and evaluate learner progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
- Administer practice tests and provide constructive feedback.
- Motivate and encourage adult learners, many of whom may be balancing work and family responsibilities.
- Participate in regular professional development activities.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- Conditional or Professional certification endorsement as an Adult Education Teacher from the MDOE.
- Experience teaching adult learners, preferably in a HiSET or GED program.
- Strong online teaching skills to engage learners online and track their progress digitally.
- Knowledge of HiSET subject areas and test‑taking strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience and ability to work with diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and software.
