Overview

Assistant Professor of Biology – Immunology (tenure-track) at Colby College, Waterville, ME. The Department of Biology is seeking an immunologist to fill an open tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Teach 4.5 courses per year, including Laboratory components and discussion-based seminars.
  • Courses include BI225 Immunology (with lab), BI325 Advanced Immunology (no lab), an additional course in the applicant’s area of expertise, and a rotation in BI163 The Cellular Basis of Life.
  • Establish an active undergraduate research program with supervision and mentoring of undergraduates.
  • Collaborate with colleagues; potential interfaces with physiology, cell biology, molecular/structural biology, neurobiology, endocrinology, or reproductive biology.
  • Contribute to the access, opportunity, and excellence of the campus community through teaching, research, and mentorship.
  • Engage with possible collaborations via affiliations with the Jackson Laboratory, Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, and Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in biological sciences with emphasis in molecular, cellular or developmental biology, genetics, or biochemistry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in immunology with a research program addressing questions of fundamental immunology or biomedical applications.
  • Commitment to undergraduate education; teaching experience is desirable.

Timeline and additional information

Facilities support invertebrate and fish models and cell culture; not mammals. Active affiliations offer collaborative research opportunities. An attractive startup package is available.
