Support Neighbors Affected by Local Disasters - Waterville & Kennebec County (ME)
The American Red Cross, through its network of volunteers, donors and partners, is there in times of need. We strive to turn compassion into action so that all people affected by disaster receive care, shelter and hope; communities are ready and prepared for disasters; everyone has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; military families find support and comfort; and trained Red Cross volunteers are nearby in emergencies to save lives.
Your local American Red Cross office is seeking volunteers to provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring affected individuals have access to basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. If you are a caring person who wants to be on the front lines of emergency support, this could be a meaningful way to give back to your community.
Responsibilities- Receive training to support families and individuals displaced by local emergencies including severe storms and home fires.
- Sign up for on-call shifts to be available to respond when needed.
- Treat clients with compassion and respect and maintain client confidentiality.
- Help connect clients with Red Cross and other resources to meet basic needs (shelter, food, clothing, medication, etc.) and make referrals when Red Cross Mental Health, Spiritual Care, or Health Services may be needed.
- Consider training to assist with larger scale national disasters in various leadership roles.
- A passion for the Red Cross mission.
- Basic computer skills and effective communication.
- Flexibility to respond as needed.
