The City of Waterville is seeking motivated, reliable, and outdoor-minded individuals to join our winter operations team at the Quarry Road facility. Staff in this position will support snow making operations and rope tow lift operations to ensure a safe, fun, and well-maintained skiing and riding experience for the community. This role plays a key part in helping us open and maintain quality skiing trails throughout the winter season.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, and assist in the maintenance of snow making equipment, including snow guns, hoses, hydrants, pumps, and air/water systems.
  • Safely operate the rope tow lift during public hours, programs, and private sessions.
  • Operate snowmobiles for light hauling, equipment transport, and snow making support (training provided).
  • Perform routine checks on snow making and lift equipment to ensure safe and consistent operation.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of rope tow area, snow making zones, signage, fencing, and lighting.
  • Interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner—providing basic instruction, answering questions, and ensuring safe behavior on‑hill.
  • Work collaboratively with Parks & Recreation staff and volunteers.
  • Support general site tasks as needed, including shoveling, trail prep, and event setup.
Qualifications
  • Comfortable working outdoors in cold winter weather for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, carrying hoses/equipment, and moving on snow and uneven terrain.
  • Mechanical aptitude or experience with tools, pumps, or ski area equipment is a plus (training provided).
  • Experience operating snowmobiles or similar equipment preferred, but willing to train motivated applicants.
  • Ability to work independently, follow safety procedures, and problem‑solve in a dynamic environment.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
  • Previous skiing, snowboarding, or ski area experience beneficial but not required.

This is a part-time position with fluctuating hours between 20‑30 per week with a starting pay of $17.00 per hour.
