Job Summary

The Assistant Store Manager is the second in charge of operations for a specialty retail farm and ranch store. Responsibilities include delivering legendary customer service, leading the store team, performing operational activities, maintaining a safe environment, and training team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs
  • Uphold and enforce safe and productive work environment policies and procedures
  • Deliver Legendary Customer Service through GURA:
    • Greet the Customer
    • Uncover Customer’s Needs & Wants
    • Recommend Product Solutions
    • Ask to Add Value & Appreciate the Customer
  • Proficient in all Team Leader and Receiver functions
  • Create and foster a welcoming environment and sense of belonging in the Store, ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion are experienced every day across all Team Members, Customers, Suppliers and Communities
  • Perform a combination of the following duties during 95% of the day (mix may vary):
    • Assist Store Manager in operations, sales, customer loyalty, and daily task delegation
    • Support Team Member counseling, hiring, scheduling, and training, including product knowledge development and continuous learning encouragement
    • Execute Opening/Closing procedures
    • Transport and make deposits to the bank
    • Resolve customer complaints and ensure a positive shopping experience
    • Champion the Customer Experience and act as GURA Sales Leader
    • Lead freight movement, support merchandising, feed management, and inventory control
    • Operate cash register/computer and supervise cash handling procedures
    • Adhere to loss prevention standards and respond to alarm calls
    • Operate forklift, baler, and safe poultry handling equipment
    • Assist customers with loading purchases
    • Complete all documentation associated with job duties
    • Obtain required licenses or certifications as needed by the business
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Previous retail leadership experience is required
  • Farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding knowledge is strongly preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required;
    Bachelor’s in Business Administration or related field is preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and count accurately
Preferred Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
  • Ability to perform and execute primary responsibilities of team members
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically with minimal conflict
Working Conditions
  • Indoor environment with moderate noise; outdoor lots are hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt)
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
  • Shift lengths typically 4 to 8+ hours, varying by store
  • Adherence to company safety training and guidelines
Physical Requirements
  • Non-sedentary; requires frequent movement throughout store and outdoor areas
  • Move and transfer merchandise up to 50 pounds; push and pull up to 2,000 pounds with MHE
  • Occasionally lift or reach overhead; regularly stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, climb ladders for up to 12 hours
  • Operate & use all store equipment (dolly, handtruck, forklift, baler, computer, cash register)
  • Read, write, and count accurately; communicate effectively with team members and customers
  • Process information/merchandise through point-of-sale system; handle birds/poultry as required
  • Complete required training and certifications (including propane dispensing for eligible age)
  • Travel and drive or operate vehicle for business needs
