Assistant Accountant

Are you an experienced accountant with a passion for working with Xero and a background in a firm of accountants? Our client, a reputable accountancy practice based in Watford, Hertfordshire, is seeking a Permanent Assistant Accountant to join their friendly team.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a dynamic, client‑focused environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing client bookkeeping, preparing annual financial statements, and creating budgets in Xero to aid clients with forecasting.

• Managing client bookkeeping
• Preparing annual financial statements
• Creating budgets in Xero to aid clients with forecasting
• Liaising directly with clients to ensure the accuracy of financial records
• Assisting with VAT returns, payrolls, and month‑end procedures
• Managing multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism

• Proven experience in bookkeeping and accounts preparation within an accountancy practice
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
• Experience working with Xero is essential;
  Xero certification is desirable
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong client relationships
• Must be based within commuting distance to Watford, as it is an office‑based role
