I'm working with an established and growing accountancy practice in Watford looking to appoint an experienced Audit Director RI/ Responsible Individual.
This is a genuine senior leadership role rather than simply another portfolio management position.
You'll work closely with the Partners, take responsibility for audit quality and sign-off across an established SME and owner-managed client base, and have real influence over how the audit function develops.
The role would suit an existing RI who enjoys remaining close to clients and teams but wants more autonomy, visibility and involvement in the wider growth of a practice.

The role

• Act as Responsible Individual and sign statutory audit reports
• Take ownership of audit quality, technical matters and file review
• Oversee an established portfolio of SME and owner-managed audit clients
• Work directly with Partners on the development of the audit function
• Lead, mentor and develop managers, seniors and the wider audit team
• Build strong relationships with business owners and senior client stakeholders
• Identify opportunities to broaden existing client relationships
• Support new business activity and the continued growth of the office

What we're looking for

You'll be ACA or ACCA qualified with substantial UK practice audit accountancy experience.
Current RI status is strongly preferred, alongside the technical confidence to take signing responsibility and operate as a senior point of reference for both clients and the audit team.
The practice is particularly interested in people who have worked closely with privately owned businesses, SMEs and OMB clients, rather than somebody whose experience has been exclusively within very large listed or highly specialised audits.
You don't need to arrive wanting to spend your life buried in technical files either. The attraction here is the combination of technical ownership, client relationships, people leadership and commercial influence.
