Lead Managing Quantity Surveyor - Water Sector

Our client is a leading Tier 1 civil engineering contractor experiencing continued growth within the utilities sector. They seek a Lead Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a major Capital Delivery Framework in the water industry. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a senior quantity surveyor to step into a leadership position or for an established managing quantity surveyor to tackle new challenges.

The successful candidate will report to the Regional Commercial Manager and provide commercial leadership across a portfolio of water infrastructure projects while supporting the wider commercial team.

• Lead, mentor, and support commercial team members through coaching, training, appraisals, and ongoing professional development.
• Foster a collaborative environment where commercial and operational teams share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned.
• Set, monitor, and review individual performance objectives across the commercial team.
• Ensure team members fully understand and fulfil their roles and responsibilities.
• Provide contractual and commercial advice to project and operational management teams.
• Review subcontractor performance and support the expansion and development of the supply chain.
• Prepare, negotiate, and administer subcontract agreements.
• Monitor commercial governance processes and ensure compliance with company procedures.
• Work closely with the Operational Lead to identify commercial risks, opportunities, and project performance improvements.
• Ensure project data is accurately captured and reported.
• Undertake subcontract valuations, assessments, and payment authorisations.

• HNC, HND, or BSc qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
• A minimum of six years’ Quantity Surveying experience within civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure, or water sectors.
• Previous experience at Senior Quantity Surveyor, Managing Quantity Surveyor, or similar level.
• Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
• Proven commercial management experience within a main contractor or subcontractor environment.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

• Experience working on water infrastructure frameworks or utility projects.
• Previous experience managing or mentoring commercial teams.
• Demonstrable success in identifying commercial risks and opportunities within large‑scale infrastructure projects.
