SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you a caring, patient, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a fulfilling role where your support truly matters? This is an exciting opportunity to join a welcoming primary special school in Hertfordshire, supporting pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with a range of additional needs.

About the Role

You will be supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and physical disabilities, helping them access learning in a calm, safe, and nurturing environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing one-to-one and small-group support tailored to individual needs and EHCP targets

• Adapting learning materials using visual aids, symbols, and sensory resources

• Supporting structured classroom activities under the direction of teachers and the SEN team

• Using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to support emotional regulation

• Supporting communication through PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, and assistive technology

• Providing personal care where required, maintaining dignity and safeguarding at all times

• Supporting pupils during breaks, lunchtimes, transitions, and off-site activities

• Observing, recording, and reporting on pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing

• Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, families, and external professionals

The Ideal Candidate

• Experience supporting children with SEN (school-based or similar settings preferred)

• A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• A genuine passion for inclusive education and child development

• Willingness to engage in ongoing training and professional development
