School Caretaker
Location: Bushey, Hertfordshire
Start Date: 1 September 2026
Contract: Full Time, Contract, Autumn Term
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
We are seeking a reliable, hardworking and proactive Caretaker to join our friendly school community in Bushey from September 2026.
This is an important role within the school, ensuring that our premises are safe, secure, clean and well‑maintained for pupils, staff and visitors.
The RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Opening and securing the school site each day.
- Carrying out routine maintenance, repairs and general handyman duties.
- Ensuring the school grounds are clean, safe and presentable.
- Undertaking health and safety checks and maintaining records.
- Supporting contractors and monitoring work carried out on site.
- Setting up rooms and equipment for assemblies, events and meetings.
- Managing deliveries and site security.
- Assisting with emergency call‑outs where required.
- Supporting the school in maintaining a welcoming environment for all.
- Has experience in caretaking, site management, facilities or maintenance work.
- Is practical, organised and able to work independently.
- Has a good understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is trustworthy, flexible and dependable.
- Can respond calmly and effectively to unexpected situations.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and all relevant pre‑employment checks.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, which may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants. We offer free online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers.
Hours: 6am – 1pm, Monday to Friday
