Once trained, Education Officers deliver classroom-facing and teacher-facing education across all of our core programmes – Lessons from Auschwitz;
Testimony 360;
Outreach and Teacher Training – drawing on their own teaching experience and understanding of effective pedagogy. Delivery of our programmes takes place both during and outside school term dates and hours. Training will be provided to deliver across all our programmes within the first six months in post.

Programme development, innovation and resource production
  • Work with the Senior Education Officer to plan, develop and review programmes and
  • resources.
  • Train internal and external educators to deliver the Trust’s programmes.
Partnerships and External Relations
  • Represent the Trust at national and international conferences and forums.
  • Participate in collaboration with other Holocaust education organisations globally to share best
  • practice in both Holocaust and antisemitism education pedagogy and innovation.
  • Impact, Evaluation and Learning
  • Work with our Data and Evaluation Manager to participate in impact evaluation work, as well as
  • programme monitoring and feedback.
  • Use evaluation findings to inform programme development and improvement.
Safeguarding

Work with colleagues to play an active and effective role in ensuring that the Trust has the highest safeguarding standards across all programmes, adhering to legislation and best practice.

The post requires regular travel within the UK and abroad, including a minimum of three one-day Poland visits per year as part of the Lessons from Auschwitz Project, attendance at the Trust’s central London office on agreed days, and occasional evening and weekend work. HET has a Time Off in Lieu policy, alongside additional systems of support to help ensure a realistic, sustainable and fair schedule of travel across the Education Officer team.

Qualifications
  • University degree in a relevant subject.
  • Professional teaching qualification (PGCE; QTS or equivalent).
  • Safer Recruiting training.
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead training.
Knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of UK statutory safeguarding frameworks and how to apply them in practice.
  • Knowledge of the history of the Holocaust or a related subject.
  • Familiarity with contemporary trends in the UK educational sector, with a comprehensive understanding of school curricula across the UK, the challenges and experiences of teachers in UK schools.
  • Familiarity with pedagogies associated with teaching and learning about the Holocaust.
  • Broad knowledge of the growing use and trends of digital technology within teaching and education, and the opportunities, risks, pedagogical factors and ethical considerations associated with educational technologies.
  • A postgraduate qualification in the history of the Holocaust or related studies.
  • In-depth knowledge or experience of at least one of the Trust’s existing educational programmes.
Experience
  • Significant and recent teaching experience within a school setting.
  • Experience of developing new educational content using evidence-based pedagogical methods.
  • Strong understanding of effective pedagogy, curriculum delivery and the realities of teaching in UK schools.
  • Experience of planning and delivering the integration of safeguarding into educational programmes.
  • Experience in developing and delivering CPD for teachers.
  • Experience of teaching and pedagogies associated with new technologies.
Skills
