About the Role:Help GCSE learners build confidence and prepare for their exams as an English Tutor at a secondary school in Watford. You will support pupils in English Language and Literature, strengthening their reading, writing and analytical skills.
Through one-to-one and small-group sessions, you will address gaps in knowledge, clarify misconceptions and develop examination technique. Working closely with the English department, you will keep tuition aligned with classroom learning and GCSE assessment objectives.
This English Tutor role suits someone who can make challenging topics accessible and engaging. You will adapt sessions to individual needs, track progress and help pupils gain confidence in extended writing and exam responses.
Requirements:
To be eligible for this role and the stated rate of pay, applicants must have:
- Experience teaching or tutoring GCSE English Language or Literature with secondary-aged pupils.
- Sound knowledge of the GCSE English curriculum and examination requirements.
- Experience delivering effective one-to-one or small-group tuition.
- The ability to adapt teaching to address learning gaps and support progress.
- The right to work in the UK and willingness to complete safeguarding checks.
- An enhanced DBS check, or willingness to apply for one.
- Deliver focused GCSE English intervention to individuals and small groups.
- Identify misconceptions and plan sessions around pupils learning needs.
- Develop reading, writing, analysis and extended-response skills.
- Teach examination technique and explain assessment objectives.
- Monitor progress and adapt tuition in response to pupils work.
- Collaborate with the English department to complement classroom teaching.
- Build positive, encouraging relationships with secondary-aged pupils.
- Explain challenging English concepts clearly and confidently.
- Be comfortable supporting both GCSE English Language and Literature.
- Adapt tuition to different abilities and starting points.
- Show patience while helping pupils recognise their progress.
