Support Worker Hours per Week: 37 Working Pattern:
Monday Friday, with one Saturday in eight Contract Length:
Temporary expected until March 2026 Salary: £14.82 per hour DBS Requirement:
Enhanced DBS required We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Support Worker to join our clients team on a temporary basis. You will be supporting veterans and individuals who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of homelessness, providing holistic, solution-focused support that empowers people to develop independence and stability. Your caseload will typically consist of 58 customers, allowing you the time and capacity to deliver high-quality, person-centred support.
You will work as part of a wider team supporting people with moderate to high support needs across the Exeter area.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide practical and emotional support tailored to individual needs. Work closely with external agencies around mental health, substance misuse, benefits, housing, education, training and employment. Create, review and update support plans and risk assessments. Take a positive and proactive approach to risk management. Support individuals to work toward their goals and build skills for independent living. About the Candidate Essential:
Experience supporting a wide range of people with varying backgrounds and support needs. Ability to apply common sense to situations and manage risks appropriately. Accountability for decision-making and understanding the bigger picture. Experience maintaining records and creating effective action plans. Ability to build positive relationships with individuals and internal/external partners. Ability to lone-work safely and also contribute effectively as part of a team.
Willingness to work flexibly, including with different clients/colleagues and occasionally outside standard hours. Clear understanding of diversity when supporting vulnerable people. Ability to promote independence and self-determination in individuals and groups. Ability to form constructive, creative relationships to support individuals development. Confidence in assessing challenging situations and providing appropriate solutions. Ability to respond positively to change. Good understanding of housing support and the issues people face daily.
Understanding of training, education, employment opportunities or social activities. Previous experience working with vulnerable individuals, either 1:1 or in group environments. Knowledge and understanding of housing-related support. Good literacy and numeracy skills. Safeguarding certifications. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant field.
