Location: Wath upon Dearne

Equans is looking for a Senior Estimator to join our team in Wath upon Dearne, South Yorkshire or Nottingham on a permanent basis. This is a full‑time role, on offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle and benefits package.

General Overview

The Senior Estimator leads the development of comprehensive and high‑value cost estimates for complex construction projects, guiding the commercial aspects of tender submissions and contract negotiations. This role is responsible for ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and risk mitigation in cost forecasting, while providing expert guidance to junior estimating staff and collaborating closely with project leadership and clients to support business growth.

What will you deliver?
  • Lead the preparation and delivery of detailed and strategic cost estimates for major and complex tenders.
  • Analyse and interpret complex tender documentation, designs, and specifications to identify commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Develop pricing strategies that align with company objectives, market conditions, and client expectations.
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive and reliable pricing.
  • Mentor and provide technical support to junior estimators, fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Commercial Directors, and design teams to align estimates with project delivery plans and risk profiles.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and post‑tender clarifications to secure profitable project awards.
  • Maintain and improve estimating processes, tools, and documentation standards to enhance consistency and efficiency.
  • Present commercial bids and risk assessments to senior management and client representatives.

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive estimating experience (typically 5+ years) in construction, with proven success in managing major tenders.
  • Strong technical expertise in cost planning, risk analysis, and value engineering.
  • Proficient in advanced estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK; minimum age 18 compliant with health & safety legislation.
Desirable
  • Chartered status or actively working towards professional accreditation (e.g. MRICS, MCIOB).
  • Experience across multiple construction sectors and complex infrastructure projects, including refurbishment, repairs, maintenance and voids, and asset management.
  • Knowledge of digital estimating technologies, BIM integration and data analytics.
  • Track record in securing profitable large‑scale contracts and framework agreements.
  • Understanding of public procurement processes and regulatory compliance.
